This week I have mostly listening to Teenage Fanclub. I'd totally forgotten how brilliant they are, but this clip reminded me:
The things I love about this clip are a) the count in, b) the vocal harmony at 1.07 c) the GCSE student playing wicked drums, and d) quite how rubbish they look, proving image is nothing. Plus they were one of Kurt Cobain's favourite bands.
The thing I don't like about the clip is the weird little character at the start.
I've also been reminded about The Posies. Do you remember them? The years haven't been too kind:
"Frosting on the Beater" was one of my favourite albums for a while about 10 years ago - ace harmonic rock. That bass note at 0.41 makes the whole song, doesn't it? And who knew that Stephen Merchant played such good bass?

Super-chouette. Melodic grunge to warm one's cockles. I was unfamiliar with the work of The Posies, and am delighted. Nice singing, good guitar sound, THAT bass note at 0.41 and the bassist having a little moment with the drummer, too, a bit later. As for the Fanclub, well, yes. More proof, if proof were needed, of my well-known and highly influential Glasgow Theory . . .
